His third album saw Ian Read collaborating again with musicians from the orbit of Psychic TV and Current 93, this time resulting in a more reduced and unpolished sound that brings Read’s vocal delivery even more to the fore. As with all of Fire + Ice’s releases, “Midwinter Fires” takes inspiration from the limitless well of English and Irish folk-song (‘High Gallows Tree,’ ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley’).
